Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, holistic approach to restoring balance and vitality
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, hands-on technique that stimulates the natural movement of lymph fluid through the body. This therapy supports your immune system, reduces swelling and inflammation, promotes post-surgical healing, and encourages deep relaxation. At Holistic Physical Therapy and Pilates, MLD is more than a technique—it’s a restorative experience that connects your body, mind, and nervous system for deeper healing.
Manual lymphatic drainage stimulates blocked lymph nodes to expel fluids from swollen areas and move them through the body and increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins.
This type of massage is great for:
stress relief
overall wellness
detoxification
losing weight
facilitate healing before and after surgery
With regular manual lymphatic drainage sessions you can see reduced swelling, have less stiffness and pain, and improvements in your overall health. We start with some deep breathing techniques, then we begin with gentle massage in your unaffected areas so they are ready to process lymph fluid that gets decongested from the affected area.
Lymphatic drainage massage is beneficial for those who suffer from:
lymphedema
fibromyalgia
infections such as cellulitis
post-traumatic and post-surgical edema
palliative care
other conditions
Holistic Pilates & PT Approach to MLD
Each MLD session is personalized to meet your unique needs. My goal is to help your body release stagnation, move fluid effectively, and reset into a state of calm and balance. As part of my holistic approach, I may include gentle vagus nerve release techniques to encourage relaxation and support your nervous system’s shift into the parasympathetic “rest and digest” state. This helps stimulate internal organ function, enhance digestion, and improve your body’s natural detox pathways. If I find areas of fascial tightness or restriction, I may incorporate myofascial or soft fascial mobilization to improve circulation and reduce congestion. Occasionally, I may also work around the face and neck to assist with sinus and facial drainage, helping the body release excess fluid and restore balance. Each session takes place in a safe, supportive environment where you’re encouraged to relax, breathe, and allow your body to unwind. As tension releases, many clients experience a sense of emotional or psychosomatic relief, feeling lighter and more grounded.
