PERSONALIZED 1:1 PILATES
Clinical & Rehab Pilates in Newton, MA
Build Strength. Move with Confidence. Return to What You Enjoy
If pain, a past injury, surgery, or a chronic condition makes regular exercise feel uncertain, you may need more individual guidance than a traditional Pilates class can provide.
Our sessions use personalized Pilates-based movement to help you rebuild strength, improve stability and posture, and move more independently.
The result we work toward is a confident, sustainable return to daily activities, exercise, and the things you enjoy—with less fear of setbacks.
One-on-one guidance • Personalized progression • A supportive bridge back to exercise
More Guidance Than a Regular Pilates Class
Clinical & Rehab Pilates is an 1:1 individualized physical therapy service that uses Pilates-based movement. Following a physical therapy evaluation, your plan is tailored to your needs, precautions, response to movement, and goals.
It is to help you build sustainable strength, move with greater confidence, and become more independent as you return to the activities that matter to you.
Designed for People Who Want to Stay Active and Need a Safer Starting Point
Clinical & Rehab Pilates may be a good fit if you:
Have recurring back, hip, shoulder, neck, or joint pain
Have completed physical therapy but do not feel ready for a regular exercise class
Are rebuilding strength after an injury or surgery with appropriate medical clearance
Live with fibromyalgia, an autoimmune condition, or multiple areas of discomfort
Experience flare-ups after traditional workouts
Want to improve balance, posture, stability, or confidence with movement
Need individualized modifications because group exercise moves too quickly
Want individualized guidance before transitioning to independent or small-group exercise
A Clear Path from Clinical Assessment to Confident, Independent Movement
-
1. START WITH A 30-MINUTE CLINICAL ASSESSMENT
Meet 1:1 with our specialist to discuss your goals, review selected movements, and determine whether personalized Pilates is right for you.
-
2. RECEIVE AN INDIVIDUAL PLAN
If the program is appropriate, we will recommend 1:1 sessions based on your needs, schedule, and goals. Your exercises will be selected and modified specifically for you.
-
3. BUILD STRENGTH GRADUALLY
Your program progresses as your movement, control, tolerance, and confidence improve. We monitor your response and avoid a “push through pain” approach.
-
4. TRANSITION WHEN YOU ARE READY
Depending on your goals, you may continue individual sessions, move into a small-group wellness class, or follow a more independent exercise plan.
What Happens During Your 30-Minute Clinical Assessment?
Your session helps you and the instructor clarify your movement goals, identify an appropriate starting point, and determine whether a formal physical therapy evaluation and 1:1 Pilates are appropriate next steps. A brief discussion of your movement concerns, relevant history, previous therapy, and activity goals
Observation of selected movements within the Pilates instructor’s scope
Discussion of areas where strength, stability, mobility, or control may be helpful
A small sample of appropriate Pilates-based exercises
A recommendation for 1:1 Pilates, or wellness Group class, or consultation with an appropriately licensed healthcare provider when needed
The 30-minute Clinical Assessment is an introductory movement screening. It is not a formal physical therapy evaluation, diagnosis, medical clearance, or treatment. If Clinical & Rehab Pilates is recommended, a physical therapy evaluation will be completed before treatment begins.
What We May Work On
Your sessions are built around your movement goals, current abilities, relevant precautions, and response to exercise. Depending on your needs, the program may include:
Core and trunk stability
Hip and shoulder support
Posture and movement awareness
Balance and fall-risk reduction
Controlled mobility and flexibility
Joint-protective strengthening
Movement patterns used in daily activities, work, hobbies, or exercise
A gradual return to regular Pilates, strength training and activities
Our goal is to help you move with greater strength, confidence, and independence—so you can return to the life you enjoy

Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS CLINICAL & REHAB PILATES?
Clinical & Rehab Pilates combines individualized physical therapy with Pilates-based movement. 1:1 sessions are provided as part of a physical therapy plan of care following an evaluation. Small-group Pilates classes are fitness services and are not physical therapy.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A REGULAR PILATES CLASS?
A regular Pilates class generally follows a shared fitness format. Individual Clinical & Rehab Pilates is adapted to your current abilities, relevant precautions, movement concerns, and goals, with closer attention to pacing and exercise modification.
DO I NEED TO BE A CURRENT PHYSICAL THERAPY PATIENT?
No. If the Clinical & Rehab Pilates is recommended, you will complete a physical therapy evaluation to establish an appropriate plan of care before treatment begins.
DO I NEED A REFERRAL?
A referral is not required to participate in this Pilates service. However, your physician, surgeon, or licensed physical therapist may need to clear you for exercise after a recent procedure, new injury, or significant change in symptoms.
IS IT SAFE AFTER SURGERY?
Timing and precautions depend on your procedure and stage of recovery. You may need medical clearance before participating. If you are unsure where to start, we can arrange a discovery visit with Physical Therapist at our clinic to discuss the appropriate next step.
CAN I PARTICIPATE IF I HAVE CHRONIC PAIN OR SEVERAL CONDITIONS?
Possibly. Individual sessions allow exercise to be paced and modified more carefully than a general group class. New, severe, rapidly worsening, or unexplained symptoms should be evaluated by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider first.
WILL INSURANCE COVER THE SESSIONS?
Individual Clinical & Rehab Pilates sessions may be provided as part of a physical therapy plan of care following a clinical evaluation. We can provide a superbill for submission to your insurance company. Reimbursement is subject to your insurance benefits and plan requirements.
Small-group Pilates classes are not physical therapy, and superbills are not provided for classes.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
There is no universal number. Recommendations depend on your starting point, goals, response to exercise, attendance, and whether you plan to transition to independent or small-group exercise.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Grippy socks may be recommended for equipment-based sessions.
WHAT IF CLINICAL & REHAB PILATES IS NOT RIGHT FOR ME?
We will explain possible next steps, which may include a physical therapy or medical evaluation, another clinic service, a wellness class, or independent exercise
You Do Not Have to Choose Between Staying Active and Protecting Your Body
With individualized guidance, the result we work toward is stronger, more confident, and more independent movement—so you can return to daily activities, exercise, and the things you enjoy with less fear of setbacks.
